Itinerary
I T I N E R A R Y
There are so many different attractions on this 4 days / 3 nights boat tour from Labuan Bajo, Flores, to Kayangan Harbour at East-Lombok.
The highlights are Kalong Island - Padar - Komodo - Long Pink Beach - Manta Point - Moyo Island
DAY 1: LABUAN BAJO to
--> KELOR ISLAND for snorkeling
--> MANJARITE ISLAND for snorkeling
--> KALONG ISLAND close to Rinca for watching the flying foxes and sunset
Meeting point is at the headoffice of Travel Wise in Labuan Bajo, Flores, at 09:30 in the morning. After all participants have gathered, we walk to the harbour which is not far from the office. We store our luggage in the storage compartiment of the boat and choose our place to sit. Then we have to say good bye to our lovely island of Flores. The boat chills away always along the coast line of Flores towards Kelor, a picturesque tiny island which also provides a white sandy beach. Climb up the hill to take some photos or snorkel infront of the beach. Afterwards we cruise to Manjarite Island where we also have enought time to explore the beautiful underwater world. In the afternoon we travel to Kalong Island close to Rinca where we have to be latest at 17:45 in the afternoon. It is the island where the Flying Foxes (bats) are hanging in the trees. The island is named after these bats. Flying Foxes means “Kalong” in the local language. In the evening when it gets dark they leave their trees and fly towards Flores where they look for feed. It is an amazing spectacle when the island suddenly becomes active and thousands of bats darkens the sky.
Be advised that the bats sometimes nestle on other islands far away from Rinca. Unfortunately in this case we are not able to watch them.
Overnight and dinner on the boat in the area of Kalong Island
DAY 2: KALONG ISLAND to
--> PADAR ISLAND
--> LONG PINK BEACH
--> KOMODO ISLAND
--> MANTA POINT to snorkel with the Manta Rays if they are around and weather conditions permit it
Early in the morning we continue our trip to Padar Island. It is definitely a great place to spend some time. We hike to the top of the hill but it is not really necessary. From the middle of the hills, we can already get that breathtaking panoramic photo of the fantastic shape of this island with lots of sandy bays and white-red beaches. The view is worth every sweat and sunset is spectacular. One of the many highlights of our trip.
Back on the boat we head to Long Pink Beach. The Beach got its name from the red corall sand which is mixed with yellow send and from far away the beach lights red. The coral reefs are one of the best in the Komodo National Park. Lots of colourful fish of all sizes swim around. Sometimes we can spot sea turtles and dolphins as well. Afterwards we arrive at Komodo. The biggest island in the National Park on which the last and greatest primeval lizards live. A guided walk offered by the rangers on Komodo gives us a good chance to spot the Komodo Dragons beside our trail. The walk goes through light woods, along riverbeds, up to a hill from where we have a fantastic view to the other islands with their high Lontar Palms and the Komodo National Park.
Our next stop is another highlight of this wonderful day: Manta Point. With some luck we can swim together with the huge and flat Manta Rays. Awesome creatures. But be aware of the strong currents. Sometimes the Manta Rays are not always around so we need really a lot of luck.
Everywhere in the Komodo National Park are islands with gentle green nature and countless hills, embedded in deep blue to light turquoise coloured water. Coral reefs and sand banks flash out of the bright turquoise water. . Huge sea eagles circle and eye us curiously.
During the night we travel to Moyo Island
DAY 3: MOYO ISALND to
--> MEDANG ISLAND for snorkeling
--> BOLO ISLAND for snorkeling
We will be awakened by a beautiful sunrise. There are banana pancakes and coffee or tea for breakfast. This morning we grap our snorkel masks aggain and jump into the warm blue water to explore the wonderful underwater world at this spot. Many colourful fish and a few coral reefs are the great experience this day. From the beach we walk about 300 meters through a forest to a small waterfall. One could say it replaces a fresh water shower. The place is majestic. In the sunlight there are endless orange-coloured butterflies. We continue our boat journey along the north coast of Sumbawa - hour by hour. Green hills and mountains are the only companions.
What a beauty is it here!
Of course, we will stop at Medang and Bolo Island as well. The evening we spend on the boat infront of Bolo. Our dinner is placed on a cloth laid out on the deck. It is simple and we are sure it tastes good. There are rice, chicken or tofu, various vegetables and Indonesian salad. Before we all go to our mattresses on the upper deck or to our cabin, most of us might still sit together with one or two of our brought beers or soft drinks. We might talk about our experience in East-Indonesia. Slowly, slowly we get tired. It was a long and exciting day. In full expectation what the next day may bring we might fall asleep.
Infront of Bolo Island we stay for overnight on deck of the boat
DAY 4: BOLO ISLAND to
--> KENAWA ISLAND
--> KAYANGAN HARBOUR (East Lombok)
--> from Kayangan Harbour we travel by bus to Senggigi and Bangsal Harbour, the gate to the Gilis
Today we get the last opportunity to snorkel in the crystal clear water of the Sumbawa Sea infront of Kenawa Island before we arrive at Kayangan Harbour on the east coast of Lombok. From there we travel apprx. 3 hours by bus to Senggigi and Bangsal Harbour on the west coast, the gateway to the Three Gilli Islands.
We say farewell and thank you for joining.
