Rinca Island in the Komodo National Park is closed until July 2021
Sad news reached us today for all Komodo National Park vistors who wants to go to Rinca Island. The island will be closed until July 2021 due to current tourism constructions. All other islands can still be visited. Komodo Dragons can only be seen on the islands of Rinca and Komodo. This means that the cheaper and also shorter travel time option of exploring the Komodo Dragons in one day is no longer available until mid of the year 2021. There is only one option left to see the dragons on Komodo Island which is about 4,5 hours by a slow wooden boat or 1,5 hours by a speed boat from Labuan Bajo. Rinca Island is only in 2 hours by slow boats or in half an hour by speed boats reachable.
As the Jakarta Post informed on 27th of October 2020: Ministry claimes the Rinca Island Project won't endanger the Komodo Dragon population. The Environment and Forestry Ministry has stated following concerns over the safety of the endangered species amid tourism projects on the Island.
On Rinca Island there are currently two tourism spots: Loh Buaya on the north-west side and Rinca Village on the north side of the island. There are no information given that Rinca Village can't be visited.
