Dragons Flying Foxes and Underwaterworld

You will enjoy a long and exciting day on this private tour. In the morning we explore the coral reefs of some islands with plenty of colourful fish. In the afternoon we hike on Rinca Island to discover the huge Komodo Dragons. The last spot will be Kalong Island where we might watch the amazing spectacle of Flying Foxes leving their trees when it is almost getting dark.

We pick you up from your hotel or we meet at our office at 9:00 a.m. where we hand out your snorkeling equipment. We go directly to Labuan Bajo harbour. Our local wooden boat is already waiting for us. After we are welcomed by the captain we travel to Bidadari Island. Bidarai has a beautiful white sandy beach. Infront of it there are awesome corall reefs. The morning we spend snorkeling and exploring the underwaterworld infron of the beach. Afterwards we head to Kelor, a picturesque tiny island which also provides a white sandy beach. Climb up the hill to take some photos or snorkel infront of the beach. If there is still time we go to Pempe Island for snorkeling before we arrive at Loh Buaya on Rinca Island. Our tour guide leads us to the the ranger office of the Komodo National Park. We do a quick registration. After the local ranger gives us a short introduction about Rinca Island, we have to choose between an one or a two hours hike to explore the Komodo Dragons and the wildlife of the island on a small trail. With some luck we get to see the dragons laying lazy under the trees or in the bushes. But we cannot always guarantee it. Dragons are wild animals and sometimes they are hiding or looking for feed in the impassable nature of the island.

After our exciting experience on the island we return to our boat and travel to Kalong Island close to Rinca where we have to be latest at 17:45 in the afternoon. It is the island where the Flying Foxes (bats) are hanging in the trees. The island is named after these bats. Flying Foxes means “Kalong” in the local language. In the evening when it gets dark they leave their trees and fly towards Flores where they look for feed. It is an amazing spectacle when the island suddenly becomes active and thousands of bats darkens the sky. We will be back in Labuan Bajo around 8 ‘o’clock in the evening.
Be advised that the bats sometimes nestle on other islands far away from Rinca. In this case we are not able to watch them and we go back earlier to Labuan Bajo.
