Diving in Maumere Area

Maumere is known as one of the diving designation since mid 80`s. International photo competition have been held regularly here. In 1992, earthquake and tsunami devastates the coastal area of Maumere and several islands in Maumere Bay which were considered as main dive spots. And ever since, Maumere seems to sink from the world's diving tourism. It takes several years for Maumere to finally reaches and gain its firm spot in national and international tourism. Several resorts that used to lit up Maumere, now reopens and perhaps, better than ever. This resurrection attracts experienced professional divers and their guests back to Maumere. Under water experience vary from steep walls, carpets of sand with patch corals surrounding coral reefs shall create a very enjoyable moments that kept you from boredom. There can be found sharks resting inside coral clefts and overhangs. Colorful fish are roaming the spots; Anthias, Wrasse, Parrot Fish, Damsel, are several species easy to find here. While Leaf Fish, Frog Fish, and Scorpion Fish are only few exotics can be found nearby the beach. For those who fancy wreck-type diving, a sunken war vehicle is retiring beneath the surface.
